Introduction

The subject of Helicopters has always fascinated me and something that I have always wanted to learn about in more detail.

Once I had an introduction lesson, back in 1994, I have always wanted to gain the PPL(H). So I decided to take the plunge and make a start on it, with my first lesson starting back on 19th August 2006 (with Fast Helicopters at Shoreham Airport in East Sussex). I am trying to get the time to have 1 lesson per week. The "Road To My PPL(H)" provides an insight into the journey from beginner to qualified PPL(H).

Two of the best phrases that I have come across that relate to learning to fly helicopters are as follows:

"In one sense, an instructor cannot 'teach' you to hover, they can merely prevent

you from killing yourself while you learn”

“Don’t worry; you will see the ground with your peripheral vision anyway.  You

don’t need to consciously look at it, and if you do, you’ll tend to fly into it.”
